This rural town is one of the smaller communities in western Cayuga County just west of Syracuse. Conquest was named to honor the victory of those who sought to form the city in the early 1800s.

Similar to the town of Victory, Conquest was part of the Central New York Military Trail and was formed from a larger area known as Cato. According to the National Census, the total size of Conquest is 37 square miles, with a population of 1,925 in 2000; however, a decline occurred in 2018, as the current census is just below 1,700.

Demographically, the racial makeup of Conquest is predominantly White, with only 2% of residents being African American, Asian, Native American, and Hispanic or Latino. Of the 655 households, 38% were home to children under the age of 18.
